Expedition crossing river, Haramba Queros Wachiperi Ecological Reserve, Peru
Conservation promoters from the Queros-Wachiperi Indigienous Community cross the Queros River to get to our campsite in the conservation concession. They visit the concession for a few weeks each month to explore and create trails in the wilderness. Photographed in the Haramba Queros Wachiperi Conservation Concession, a concession managed by the Communidad Nativa de Queros-Wachiperi near Pilcopata, Peru. The Queros-Wachiperi are the first idigenous group to be granted management of a conservation concession in Peru. The 7000 hectare concession is pre-montane rainforest and the community holds the title for 40 years with hopes of renewal. The concesison is also part of the Manu - Tambopata Corridor, which protects land around the Interoceanica SUR highway.
